Family Activities & Adventures

The beautiful wilderness of Northern Maine offers an endless amount of fun family activities including hiking, canoeing/kayaking, foraging, biking, shed hunting, and much more. It's the perfect place for a fun family getaway!

Hiking, Canoeing, and Fishing in Northern Maine

The areas surrounding Moose Maine are filled with great hiking trails that feature amazing views and spectacles, with the chance of seeing some of Maine’s iconic wildlife species too. The many waterfalls and lakes scattered throughout the trails make for fun destination hikes and great photo opportunities as well.

For those who are feeling a little more adventurous, we also offer guided or drop-off/pickup canoeing and kayaking trips on some beautiful class 1-2 stretches of river depending on your experience level. If you want to add on a guided fishing excursion, we can organize that too!

Shed Hunting Excursions

  1. For those who don’t know, all deer species, including moose, shed their antlers at the end of every winter and then grow a new set the following spring/summer. This means their old antlers are left scattered throughout the woods for us to find! We offer guided shed hunting trips in the spring and early summer to try and pick up a souvenir antler or two. On average, you can expect there to be around 3-4 sheds per square mile, so finding one is not as easy as it sounds, but it is a fun challenge and very exciting when you do find one!

A typical outing consists of a lot of walking, hiking, and combing through the woods in search of a flash of brown/white antler sticking up off of the ground. Finding a shed is never a guarantee, but our guides know which areas to look in and will do their best to help you find some.

Although an unsuccessful shed hunt can be boring, the good news is that we can combine a shed hunt with some foraging for fiddleheads, hiking, or other activities to keep you and your family in happy spirits. That’s the beauty of the Northern Maine wilderness – there’s always something to do!

Mountain Biking in Maine

We have lots of dirt roads and trails right outside the lodge that make for great off-road biking! This is a great way to see some of Maine’s wildlife that you wouldn’t see otherwise, because bikes are much quieter than a car but still allow you to cover more ground than you could on foot. Biking past a big moose is an unforgettable experience!

The term “mountain biking” can sound daunting, but we have something for every level of experience or adventurousness. You can come out for the day, stay at the lodge for a few nights, or simply add it to your list of activities during a longer stay with us. No matter how you do it, this is a great way to experience Northern Maine’s wilderness and take in some breathtaking views!

We currently do not have bikes onsite, so guests must bring their own, but we will begin offering e-bike rentals soon.

Monster Truck Rides

Come catch a ride on Moose Maine-iah! Maine’s one and only Monster truck available for rides! This big beast can fit up to 9 people and is kitted out with special safety seats and a roll bar to keep you safe. Don’t worry though – you won’t be jumping up into the air or doing crazy tricks – you will just be taken out to do donuts in the mud and hit a few good bumps along the way. This is a very fun experience for people of all ages, and a story that not many people can tell!
