What Are Moose Ticks and Why Do They Matter?
Moose ticks are not your typical tick. They follow a one-year life cycle and can overwhelm a single animal in devastating numbers.
- A single moose can carry 40,000 to 80,000 ticks
- Each tick can lay 2,000 to 3,000 eggs
- Those eggs hatch in the winter, continuing the cycle
This leads to severe stress, hair loss, blood loss, and in many cases, death. Left unchecked, the population impact can be significant across Maine.
